In 2027, Nigerians will hold politicians accountable – Seyi Makinde

The outcome of the general elections in 2027 will not be influenced by the federal government, according to Governor Seyi Makinde, who is certain that Nigerians would choose their leaders despite political pressure.

Speaking on Wednesday at an event held at the University of Ibadan International Conference Centre, Makinde said Nigerians were becoming more politically conscious and ready to actively shape the country’s future.

“I believe that this election cycle, federal might will not work. It has worked in Ekiti state in both instances but this time around, Nigerians will show politicians pepper,” he said. “They will show us that they don’t want to be bystanders anymore; they will participate, and I’m sure of what I’m saying,” the governor added.

Speaking on succession plans in Oyo State, Makinde said his administration has focused on building strong systems that would ensure continuity after his tenure.

In his words, although he would recommend a successor, the final decision on who becomes the next governor would rest with the people of Oyo State. “I tell people that I will recommend for Oyo state people, but the decision will rest with the people of Oyo state,” he said.
